Best & Worst Job Markets for Unemployed

Indeed.com has released the new Job Market Competition Index which compares the number of unemployed to the number of job postings in the biggest 50 cities in the US. This index shows job seekers how much competition to expect in their area and helps them track which parts of the country offer the best chance of finding a job. Career Kick Off, August 19- Adelphi University

Career Kick Off will provide individuals with the information needed to prosper and learn from this economic environment. Whether considering returning to school, changing career fields or reconnecting with long-dormant career skills, the Career Kick Off will assist those weighing their career options.

The day will consist of three 45 minute seminars, a networking session and a keynote speaker discussing employment trends on Long Island.

New York State Court Officer's Test is out and has to be filed by July 31,
2009. If you know anyone looking for a great job, encourage them to apply.
This test is given every four years, so do not hesitate. By the way, there is
no age limit for those who think that they're not up to speed. Also - Court

HIA's 21st Annual Trade Show, May 21st

The largest Long Island Business Trade Show with over 375 exhibitors will take place on May 21, 2009 at the Suffolk County Community College's Sport and Exhibition Center in Brentwood. Its theme, Thrive in a Turbulent Business Economy.
The event will take place from 9 am to 5 pm. There is no fee to atendees if they pre-register on the HIA website, www.hia-li.org. Attend free business and job search programs. This is a great venue to network and learn about hundreds of LI companies.

During these tough economic times, we must all pull together to help each other with career opportunities. We know that many have lost jobs but Long Island is a strong community and will get through this economic crisis. However, we need you to come out to talk with employers about your career interests and what you plan to offer in terms of your service and talents to the community. A number of employers may be looking for interns, part-time employees and volunteers at this time. You never know where these opportunities could lead you. Exam Monitors Needed

Examination monitors are needed for May 16, 2009 to proctor for the Clerk-Typist written test. Monitors will work from 8:00 AM to about 1:30 PM at various locations in central and eastern Suffolk County. Earn $103.24 for the day.
Qualifications: 21 years of age or older, Suffolk residency, and ability to follow written instructions. Possession of an Associates Degree, some college or test administration experience is preferred.
